My New Obsession…Capiz Shell Chandeliers

I am growing increasingly obsessed with capiz lighting. In fact, it’s taking everything in me not to pull the trigger on this beauty – I think it would be impecable over our bed in our master…

Here is our bed…… it would be¬†perfect, right?! I think so, too!! Annnnnd then there’s the price… $995….*sigh*

Here are a few others I’ve been obsessing over…

I had initially considered this one for our master, but I’m not quite sold on it yet…I’m almost afraid it might be too tall??

I am lovin them also! I’ve been thinking about putting one in our master bedroom but I don’t know if it will give off enough light.

PS I love your style! :)

    • Liz,

Do you have any other sources of light in the room? Lamps, canned lights? I love the look of them in bedrooms!

  • I think a capiz lamp would look great in your bedroom, which is gorgeous by the way!

  • All are gorgeous- I love that last one too! I ordered a light fixture from Overstock for my office that looked great in the picture, but not so great in person:) My friend actually had to remove the ceiling fan to install it, so I hate to go through the trouble of replacing it now- ug! Probably should have returned it and kept looking. . .

  • I love capiz lamps! In fact, we have one over our dining room table and we have the west elm chandelier you pictured above in our living room. It is really long! We have 11 foot ceilings and had to trim the very bottom, so we didn’t constantly walk into it but it so dramatic and beautiful. You can get plenty of light from these chandeliers as long as you purchase 100W light bulbs. The one from marieburgosdesign.com would be perfect for your bedroom. Good luck.

      Lindsey,

Did you have any problems trimming it? I have been thinking of ordering it but know it is too long as is.

      • Hey Kris, so sorry for the delay in getting back to you! It wasn’t a problem at all. The capiz shells are different sizes, so as long as you snip next to the same size the whole way around, it will be even and it looks great. It couldn’t have been easier, but I will say putting the chandelier together was quite the project. Each line of capiz shells are wrapped individually, so you have to go through each piece and unwrap and lay straight before you hang it. It was well worth it and I’m glad they do this to protect the chandelier, but it was a tedious process!

I love that Horchow shaded chandelier too. I stalk it online and dream of it in my dining room. I have tried to love others that are less expensive, but they just aren’t the same. I think the exposed metal distracts from the softness in a lot of the capiz chandeliers. In this situation I dont think the others compare. I say splurge on the one from Horchow and then post a picture of it so we can see it!

I love your blog and can’t wait to check for any updates each morning. The “anthropologie” bedroom you just designed is fabulous! I am in the process of redecorating my master bedroom and I’m obsessing over the animal print throws on your bed. Where did you find that fabric? Is it grey? I would love to purchase the same fabric to upholster a chair and/or have some throw pilllows made. Thank you and I look forward to tomorrow’s new post!

I got my pillows at West Elm…and yes, they are gray!

  • I love capiz chandeliers – so much that I made my own. http://athomewithh.blogspot.com/2010/09/make-capiz-chandelier.html

I don’t think they sell them at Cost Plus World Market anymore – they removed them from their site, sadly.
