A Little D.I.Y. Greek Key Lamp Shade

I have this great little consignment store in my neighborhood which I try to visit as often as possible as they have some really unique finds. During one of my visits, I stumbled upon a great lamp shade with a greek key trim… I loved the idea, so I decided that this would be the inspiration for a little DIY project I had in mind for lamp shades of my own!
Here is a picture of the lamp shade in our master bedroom….there are 2…one on each side of the bed. The shades are linen, which I love; however I wanted to jazz them up a bit as I felt they needed a little detail to help them stand apart from our linen head board.

So I chose an ivory ribbon with metallic gold greek keys…and with nothing but a little fabric glue, I trimmed the top and bottom border. I am happy with the end result as I feel that the width of the ribbon gives it a slightly understated look, but the metallic in the greek keys is just enough to make the shades pop.

  • The ribbon you chose is just perfect! It’s nice that the shades already had a nice little border on them. The lamp is great too- where’d you find it?
